Special Event

We Are Temporarily Closed

5/23/2020–6/29/2020

As of Monday, March 16, Images Cinema will be cancelling all films and special events until further notice. Check out our virtual cinema offerings until we can re-open. We are taking this action in response to ongoing concerns about the coronavirus and COVID-19 and in consideration for the health and wellbeing of our staff, volunteers, patrons and community. This is a difficult decision to make, but it is a necessary one.

We have always prided ourselves on being an inclusive place where people gather, drawn together not just by the latest movies, but by a sense of community. This has always been our greatest strength, but right now, under these extraordinary circumstances, it is also what creates an avoidable risk.

The situation with the coronavirus has evolved rapidly and continues to do so. As our awareness of the virus grew, we implemented several new procedures at the theater, including limiting the numbers of seats we sold, the installation of touchless hand sanitizer dispensers and even the removal of our beloved popcorn seasonings. With each of these steps, we were working toward minimizing the risk of infection. Now, in accordance with the latest information about the importance of “flattening the curve,” we have decided to take the ultimate step of voluntarily and temporarily closing the cinema.

Although our doors will be closed and our screen dark, we plan to stay busy at Images. First, the theater will be getting a thorough cleaning. Then, we are going to continue to celebrate film and our community, albeit online and through social media, including our email newsletter. We’re also going to continue planning for the future, lining up new films, partnerships and special events to unveil as soon as possible.

While we are closed, we will continue to accept donations and membership sign-ups or renewals online at ImagesCinema.org. It is impossible to realize the full impact the coronavirus will have on Images and other local arts organizations. Any show of support to the cinema will be greatly appreciated. It will help Images get through this difficult time of indeterminate length and eventually reopen with greater ease.

Our part-time staff will continue to receive compensation for the shifts they will be missing. They are a vital part of this theater, and it’s important to us as a responsible organization to acknowledge that, especially in difficult times such as these.

We look forward to when the risk of the virus has abated and when we can welcome audiences back to Images Cinema. Until then, we remain grateful for everyone’s support, patience and understanding. For update and news, please visit our web site, sign up for our weekly emails or connect with us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to email Executive Director Doug Jones directly at Doug(at)ImagesCinema.org or call us at 413-458-1039.

In closing, wash your hands, don’t touch your face and make good, informed decisions. COVID-19 may be distancing us from each other right now, but that—like the closing of Images— is temporary. When we get to the other side of this, we will come together once again as a community, one made stronger by the difficulties we have shared.
